Tooth whitening
Nowadays, when aesthetic dentistry is becoming more and more popular every year, teeth whitening is becoming very common. This is a daily procedure performed by dentists, and in addition, many people decide to use commonly available means to lighten teeth such as toothpastes, rinses or chewing gum.
Causes of tooth discoloration
Typical dental deposits from coffee, tea, wine, tobacco and juices can be removed using professional hygienic procedures in the dental office. A change in tooth colour may also be caused by tooth disease. Additionally, after a tooth injury, its colour may change to grey.
Ask your dentist about the appropriate method of teeth whitening
Whitening will help patients whose natural tooth shade does not meet their expectations. Professional teeth whitening will allow you to get rid of the complex with a smile on your face.
If you are determined to have a treatment, there are several professional methods of whitening. We will verify the condition of the oral cavity and help you choose the right one.
Contraindications
There are contraindications for tooth whitening:
• Young age (no teeth whitening is performed in people under 16 years of age),
• Pregnancy (due to frequent gingivitis),
• Nicotine addiction,
• Allergy to bleaching agents.
You can always ask about other contraindications in the office.
What do I need to know when making a decision about whitening?
For at least 24 hours after whitening it is recommended to avoid eating and drinking food or drink containing any dyes (cola, coffee, tea, red meat, tomatoes, soy sauce, berries, beetroot, red wine) and smoking. You must avoid cold or hot foods because of the increased sensitivity of your teeth. A “white diet” should be maintained during this time. (milk, water, white bread, fish, rice, country cheese).
Positive and negative effects of teeth whitening
Teeth whitening in the dental office has many advantages:
• The expected effect of whitening is possible to achieve already during one visit,
• The whole procedure is performed by a dentist – the patient does not have to do anything at home,
• Teeth whitening is always carried out by a specialist, so the customer can rest assured of his or her health.
Tooth whitening also has side effects:
• The final effect of changing the shade of enamel, visible only a few days after the treatment, may be quite radical and cause various reactions among people in the patient’s environment,
• The whitening procedure may cause toothache, which should be immediately reported to the doctor – it may be a result of increased tooth sensitivity.
